Reflection Back after Graduate School and Working

One of the blessed things about blogs are that you could go back to what you wrote and thought at that time... Why would I write the things that I wrote and reflect if what I thought then would apply now.. Technology sure has changed.... I think with in-memory computation and the rise of solid state drive.. Cloud computing expanding and become even more pervasive in this world... At the end, there is one thing I could say... The fundamentals does not change.. 1) Maintenance is still key even after project.. Even when technology changes.. 2) Maintenance will go so far until you need to innovate... I think then, I focus more on the operational and business process (and still do).. But once you are optimized, what next? You need to expand and innovate... 3) With new technology, there is a great need for stewardship... Not only in data but the technology itself.. I recently thought about what Facebook had to do with AI.. They had to shut it down because it created a language of their own... I tell people that you have to respect the technology and be careful in how it is applied.. It could be used for greater good for everyone or it could end up being used for malicious purpose (ransomware everyone?).. We have to reflect the importance of why we use technology and how does it benefit everyone... 4) Do not fear change but rather embrace it... This does not mean to change your beliefs, principles, and fundamentals.. Rather understand the implications.... The applications will come out naturally (which could change from that).. Technology has a means of doing that.. 5) My belief.. When you can't do great things, do the small things in great ways - Napoleon Hill.... That never change and it always bring me back to success, satisfaction, and appreciation to life...
